L'industrie aérotechnique et spatiale exige l'emploi de matières de haute technologie. Dans de nombreux cas, les matières plastiques remplacent les métaux classiques comme l'acier et l'aluminium. Les matières composites offrent ici un net avantage au niveau du poids tout en possédant des coefficients de résistance identiques ou meilleurs. Les résines de liaison utilisées exigent également l'emploi d'agents de démoulage.
Les exigences posées à un agent de démoulage sont comparables à celles posées par l'industrie automobile. La qualité de surface des pièces extérieures de l'avion doit notamment être irréprochable. Les aspérités sont des points faibles qui peuvent entraîner de gros défauts. Le traitement ultérieur des surfaces (peinture, enduction) ne doit pas non plus s'altérer.
